Mushroom Bacon Turkey Burgers

These tasty turkey burgers are prepared using a combination of pan searing and braising. It's a great method for cooking leaner ground meats like turkey and chicken because you don't have to worry about them drying out. These burgers are flavored with fresh thyme and topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions, and dill pickle slices. Served with a side of chips, they make a great meal – no grill required.

Ingredients :
  • Dill pickle slices, optional
  • Additional barbecue sauce
  • 4 Whole wheat hamburger buns, split
  • 4 slices Thin cheddar cheese
  • 4 Bacon strips, halved
  • 1 pound Extra-lean ground turkey
  • 1/4 tsp. Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. Garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp. Onion powder
  • 3 tbsp. Barbecue sauce
  • 3 tbsp. Soft bread crumbs
  • 1 cup Finely chopped fresh mushrooms
Directions :
  1. Combine first six ingredients. Add turkey; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four 1/2-in.-thick patties.
  2. Place burgers on an oiled grill rack over medium heat; grill, covered, until a thermometer reads 165℃, 4-5 minutes per side. Grill bacon strips, covered, until crisp, 2-3 minutes per side. Top burgers with cheese and bacon; grill, covered, until cheese is melted, about 30 seconds.
  3. Serve on buns. Top with additional barbecue sauce and, if desired, pickles.
