Ham Gravy

In just minutes, you can transform those pan juices into a rich and velvety sauce to serve with slices of ham and potatoes.

Ingredients :
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¾ to 1 cup ham drippings or a mixture of drippings and chicken broth
  • salt and black pepper to taste
Directions :
  1. Using a spatula, scrape up any brown bits from the baking dish of the ham into the reserved drippings. Set aside.
  2. In a medium skillet, combine butter and flour over medium heat. Cook for 2 minutes while stirring.
  3. Gradually add the milk and ham drippings, whisking until smooth after each addition. Once added, bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce to a simmer and let simmer for 2 to 3 minutes or until thickened.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in extra salt and black pepper to taste.
