Mini Waffle Breakfast Sandwiches

The best way to satisfy my cravings as quickly as possible was to create something that would house all three of the craved ingredients in one bite – AKA; a sandwich or rather, a breakfast sandwich. But instead of using a biscuit or an English muffin – I would use the waffles as the “bun” of the sandwich. No waffle is ever complete without a little syrup, I decided that it would only make sense for me to use maple syrup as a condiment for the sandwich.

If you put the maple butter to go on the bread before it went into the waffle iron, but that turned out to be a recipe for disaster: The sugars in the maple syrup burned quickly, much more quickly than the cheese melted. There would have to be another way. After a few modifications, I hit on the right balance of pre- and post-buttering. Buttering the bread before you waffle it ensures a crispy, golden brown exterior. Adding the maple butter right as the sandwich comes out of the waffle iron means the sweet, rich mixture soaks into the still-warm bread. Try this new recipe!

Waffle Ham and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

If you always have frozen waffles laying around in the freezer. They’re the perfect quick breakfast when you’re rushing out the door in the morning. Allow the waffles to thaw out in the fridge for a few hours before using it. Then spread each waffle with a bit of grainy mustard. Sandwich together and set to the side.
